On April 19th at around 10:32 AM EDT (16:32 CEST), the official X account (formerly Twitter) of Hasselblad briefly posted an image that appears to showcase a new E-mount camera, titled “Stellar.” The model in question is likely the Hasselblad Stellar 2 E Mount, based heavily on the Sony A7 IV design.

A Familiar Move from Hasselblad
This unexpected development has sparked curiosity across the photography community. Many are experiencing a sense of déjà vu—Hasselblad previously took a similar approach back in 2012 with the release of the Hasselblad Lunar, which was based on the Sony NEX-7. The name choice is also raising eyebrows, as a camera called the Hasselblad Stellar already exists. Naturally, this version is being dubbed the Stellar 2, staying true to Hasselblad’s idiosyncratic naming style.
Sources within the industry speculate that Sony’s leftover A7 IV components will power the Hasselblad Stellar 2 E Mount. This move would coincide with Sony’s shift in focus to the upcoming A7 V model, expected to launch in Q3 2025.
The original post vanished just three minutes later, at 10:35 AM EDT (16:35 CEST), and Hasselblad has remained silent on the matter since then. No official statements or follow-ups have emerged across their social media channels.
