Inspiring Teenage Photographer Liz Hatton’s Work to Be Auctioned for Charity After Cancer Battle

The inspiring legacy of teenage photographer Liz Hatton, who lost her battle with a rare cancer at the age of 17 last year, continues to touch hearts. Next month, 12 of her captivating photographs will be auctioned alongside the work of renowned photographers.

Morphets, an auction house in Hatton’s hometown of Harrogate, UK, will hold the event and has generously decided to waive its commission, ensuring that all proceeds go to charity. Liz’s work will share the spotlight with esteemed photographers such as Alwyn R. Coates, Frank Herholdt, and Jennifer Charlton.

Last June, Liz shared her story after posting her bucket list on X, formerly Twitter. “There’s been a shift in what I see as normal, I used to focus heavily on school, but I’ve now devoted my time to what matters most.” With just a few years left, she found fulfillment in photography.

Her remarkable spirit and artistic vision resonated with many, including the Princess of Wales, whom Liz met at Windsor Castle, where she photographed Prince William.

Following her passing in November, Liz’s family launched a JustGiving campaign to raise £100,000 for Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor research. So far, £71,000 has been collected.

Ian Marshall from Morphets has spent the past six months curating this extraordinary auction. Speaking to Harrogate-based publication The Stray Ferret, he shared: “This auction is unique in the UK, featuring over 200 images from Europe’s top photographers, including Liz’s work. The timing aligned perfectly to include her photos with her mother Vicky’s approval.”

Many of the showcased images are rare, with some being one-of-a-kind and never seen publicly before. Given their exclusivity and quality, expectations are high for strong global interest and substantial funds raised for charity.

Liz’s collection is listed from Lot 235 to 247, and the public will have the opportunity to view all the pieces at Morphets, Albert Street, Harrogate, on January 31 from 10 am to 6 pm.
