The Australian-based Nexus Camera, led by brothers Thomas and Timothy Boland, has officially revealed the final design and prototype of their groundbreaking camera, the Nexus G1 Blackmagic. Engineered as a tool created “by filmmakers for filmmakers,” the Nexus G1 incorporates a 6K Super 35 Blackmagic RAW imaging system. It supports Blackmagic BRAW and Apple ProRes, providing unmatched versatility for professionals. The company showcased the new design and unveiled the physical prototype in a YouTube video released by Project Chief Thomas Boland.

Full-Frame Conversion: Using a 0.71x speed booster via the AutoLock module, the Nexus G1 achieves a full-frame equivalent, significantly enhancing its flexibility for various shooting needs.
Integrated Rig Support: The camera includes a built-in lightweight support system with LWS-spaced 15mm rig rod mounts, which slide seamlessly in and out of the camera body.
Modular Design: Fully modular in its build, the Nexus G1 allows users to customize setups with options like PL and Micro Four Thirds lens mounts. Additional modules, including a 3G SDI in/out port, can be purchased separately.
Touchscreen Displays: A 5-inch monitor with 1600 nits of brightness and a 4-inch touchscreen on top provide intuitive camera controls alongside physical buttons for added convenience.
Dynamic Recording Options: With 13.4 stops of dynamic range and dual ISO, the 6K Super 35 Blackmagic sensor records at 6K/50fps or 2.8K/120fps in Blackmagic BRAW and up to 4K/60fps in ProRes.
Extended Power Solutions: Featuring a built-in mini V-mount bay and an internal NP-F550 backup battery, the camera delivers up to 11 hours of operational power.
Advanced Storage Options: It supports CFast 2.0, SD cards, USB-C, and the Nexus Maxdrive, which offers write speeds up to 520 MB/s.

Pricing and Availability
Although the team initially aimed for a 2024 release, the Nexus G1 Blackmagic is now expected to launch in Q1 2025. The Founders Edition is priced at $2,980, while the standard model will retail for $3,300. Upgrade modules, such as the AutoLock ($250), E-ND module ($380), and SDI video port ($180), are available at additional costs.
