SmallRig S70 expands the brand’s lineup beyond camera accessories with a compact wireless microphone system designed for content creators and filmmakers. The wireless audio market is crowded, but SmallRig S70 targets run and gun production with a combination of small size, flexible connectivity, and aggressive pricing.
Audio design and transmitter size
The transmitters used by SmallRig S70 feature an extremely compact clip on design. Each unit measures 1.1 by 0.3 inches and weighs only 8.6 grams. An integrated omnidirectional microphone with an 8.8 mm capsule is built in. SmallRig removes visible branding from the transmitter body, allowing microphones to remain discreet during interviews, documentaries, and vlogs.
Wireless performance and transmission
SmallRig S70 operates using 2.4 GHz digital wireless transmission. The system is rated for a maximum range of up to 300 meters in optimal conditions. Actual performance will depend on environmental interference. Each transmitter includes a dedicated mute button for quick audio control while recording.
Audio quality and internal processing
Audio capture on SmallRig S70 is handled by an ATS3031 chip supporting 48kHz 24 bit recording. The system offers a claimed signal to noise ratio of 70 dB and supports sound pressure levels up to 120 dB. An automatic limiter is included to prevent clipping during sudden volume changes, which is useful in unpredictable shooting environments.
Grammy tuned EQ presets
One of the key features of SmallRig S70 is the inclusion of nine built in EQ presets. These presets were developed in collaboration with Grammy Award winning sound engineer Luca Bignardi. Preset options include General, Rich, Bright, Male, Female, Singing, Guitar, Violin, and Ambient. The presets are designed to deliver usable sound directly in camera with minimal post production work.
Noise reduction and gain control
SmallRig S70 includes three levels of noise reduction to help manage ambient sound. Gain adjustment is available in five levels when used with cameras and three levels when used with mobile devices. This approach provides control without adding unnecessary complexity.
Recording modes and safety features
Recording flexibility is provided through three mixing modes: Mono, Stereo, and Safety Track. Safety Track records a secondary signal at a lower level to protect against distortion. This feature is particularly useful for solo shooters working without dedicated audio monitoring.
SmallRig S70 is available in multiple configurations. The S70 A kit includes three receivers: USB C for Android devices and tablets, Lightning for iPhones, and a camera mounted receiver with a 3.5 mm TRS output. Mobile receivers support pass through charging. The camera receiver mounts directly to standard camera shoes and outputs unbalanced audio.
Battery life and included accessories
Battery life on SmallRig S70 is rated at up to eight hours per transmitter. The included charging case extends total operating time to more than 40 hours. This allows full day shooting without frequent recharging. Included accessories consist of furry windscreens, a USB C charging cable, a 3.5 mm TRS cable, and a carrying pouch. SmallRig provides a limited two year manufacturer warranty.
Pricing and availability
SmallRig S70 wireless microphone system is available in black and white color options. Pricing starts at 69.99 USD for the USB C version and 89.99 USD and 94,90 EUR for the full S70 A kit. Shipping begins in mid January through SmallRig and authorized retailers.
