DaVinci Resolve 20.1 Studio Update Brings Apple Vision Pro Immersive Workflow to macOS

Blackmagic Design has released DaVinci Resolve 20.1 Studio, transforming its macOS version into a full-featured immersive video editing platform for Apple Vision Pro content creators. This update introduces native support for immersive footage captured with the URSA Cine Immersive camera, streamlining editing and playback.

Editors can now use a new immersive viewer that supports pan, tilt, and roll directly on standard monitors. Alternatively, they can stream immersive video straight to Apple Vision Pro headsets during editing sessions, enhancing the immersive review experience.

Complete Immersive Pipeline with Color and Audio Tools

The update delivers a complete immersive pipeline. Colorists can apply primary corrections and selected secondary grading tools to immersive footage. New 3D palette features like the Edge Mask help eliminate unwanted elements, such as visible microphones, from the frame.

The edit page now includes a 360º backdrop track that sits beyond the projected image, offering a new creative dimension. Fusion’s support for immersive video enables creators to design 3D graphics and text that flow across the full field of view. USD file compatibility in Fusion further expands compositing potential for immersive VFX.

Fairlight Adds Native Spatial Audio Mixing

Fairlight’s audio suite has received a significant upgrade. It now supports the Apple Spatial Audio Format (ASAF) for native immersive mixing and mastering. With 1st to 7th order Ambisonic busses and 64-channel capability, the enhanced 3D panner allows precise sound placement and room simulation throughout immersive space.

More Upgrades: AI, Keyframes, and MultiText

Beyond immersive features, DaVinci Resolve 20.1 Studio improves Fusion’s AI Magic Mask 2 for better object tracking and selection. Keyframe animation tools have been enhanced with smoother easing, improved curve visibility, out-of-bound keyframe viewing, customizable shortcut keys, and a vertical zoom slider for detailed editing.

MultiText now supports character-level formatting with multiple fonts and colors in a single block. Paragraph alignment and CSV import options simplify text layout, especially for formatted titles or subtitles.

A Major Step for Immersive Production on macOS

This update firmly establishes DaVinci Resolve Studio for macOS as the go-to solution for immersive video post-production. Apple’s spatial video push, combined with the URSA Cine Immersive camera, gives creators a professional end-to-end workflow—from capture to color to audio.

The DaVinci Resolve 20.1 Studio update is available now as a free download for macOS users. Sample immersive clips are also included to help users test and explore the new tools.
