Fujifilm has tackled the recurring connectivity issues with its Fujifilm Remote App by releasing a firmware update for select GFX and X series cameras. This update resolves problems users faced when pairing these cameras with modern iOS and Android devices.

Supported Models and Firmware Details
Last month, Fujifilm acknowledged widespread failures between the Fujifilm Remote App and devices like the iPhone 16 Pro and Google Pixel 9 series. The newly released firmware fixes a freezing issue that occurred during app connection. Supported models include the GFX 50S, X-Pro2, X-T2, X-T20, X-E3, and X100F. Users can now download these updates to regain app functionality.
However, older models, such as the X-T1 and X100T, will not receive this update due to hardware limitations. While Fujifilm offers alternative solutions like USB or card reader transfers, these lack the ease of wireless connectivity. This limitation raises concerns about the longevity of premium cameras in the face of rapid technological changes.
This firmware update highlights a persistent challenge in the photography industry. Many recent firmware releases from various manufacturers seem to address problems created by earlier updates, raising the question of whether firmware has become more of a problem generator than a solution provider.
Fujifilm, in its official statement, has acknowledged the inconvenience caused by this issue and requested ‘customers’ understanding.’ However, it remains debatable whether more effort could have been made to prolong the usability of older models, particularly considering the high-end nature of Fujifilm’s products.
For users of supported models, this firmware update offers some relief, but it also underscores the hurdles posed by the rapid pace of technological evolution. Owners of older Fujifilm cameras might see this as a nudge to reassess their workflows or determine if the time has come to upgrade to newer equipment.
