Rode CallMe is the newest feature from Rode, designed to transform how content creators manage remote audio. Developed with UK-based Vortex Communications, CallMe brings professional-grade remote connections directly into the Rodecaster Pro II and Rodecaster Duo through a free firmware update.
What Rode CallMe Offers
Rode CallMe enables low-latency, high-quality remote audio without extra software or complex setups. Users can link devices or invite guests through a browser while maintaining full broadcast-grade quality.
This integration uses the proven CallMe IP audio codec by Vortex and is embedded within the firmware. Users don’t need to purchase extra gear just update the firmware on existing units to gain immediate access.
Three Subscription Tiers
Rode CallMe comes in three tiers:
CallMe Lite (Free): Offers one remote audio channel with 10 hours per month for Rodecaster-to-Rodecaster calls and a 5-hour trial for web guests.
CallMe ($9.99/month or $99/year): Adds a second channel and unlimited web and device connections.
CallMe Pro ($49.99/month or $499/year): Unlocks three channels, SIP support, codec controls, IP codec compatibility, and mobile 4G or 5G streaming with robust redundancy.
Easy Setup and Use
Assigning CallMe to a fader channel is simple—just like a mic or USB source. To initiate a call, enter the participant’s code. To receive one, enable hosting and share your unique CallMe code.
Guests can connect via a web link or QR code. Once granted mic access, they join in seconds. The system applies mix-minus to avoid echoes and gives access to full channel processing like EQ, noise gating, and APHEX effects.
Ideal for Remote Interviews and Production
As remote workflows continue to dominate broadcasting, film, and content creation, Rode CallMe arrives as a timely solution. Unlike most remote platforms, it simplifies operation without compromising audio quality.
Creators using Rodecaster devices gain seamless access to reliable, high-fidelity communication tools without extra hardware. This ease of use removes barriers for teams seeking high-performance collaboration tools.
Real-World Considerations
While Rode promises smooth operation, real-world testing will determine its true impact. Latency, audio fidelity under variable networks, and long-session stability are yet to be independently assessed.
Also, pricing may influence user adoption. The Lite plan gives a decent entry point, but many will need a paid plan to fully utilize the system, adding subscription fees to previously standalone hardware.
Cloud Integration with Hardware
Rode CallMe blends local hardware with cloud-based communication. This shift mirrors trends across content production, where flexible cloud features complement reliable studio tools.
Partnering with Vortex boosts Rode’s strength in IP audio. Vortex’s managing director Ian Prowse expressed excitement about the collaboration, calling it a step toward delivering low-delay, pro-level remote sound to more users.
Filmmakers and podcasters already invested in the Rodecaster ecosystem can explore high-grade remote audio immediately. The concept directly tackles ongoing issues in remote production and may reshape how creators operate across distances.
The Rode CallMe feature is now available via firmware through the Rodecaster App. Registration unlocks each tier’s full potential.
