Samyang makes history today by introducing a significant product: the inaugural Prima lens Samyang AF 35mm f/1.4 P FE
Renowned for its high-quality lenses at competitive prices, Samyang has become a favorite among photographers and videographers. The brand consistently earns top marks in reviews and lab tests for delivering value without compromising on performance.
Prima Series Debut: Samyang AF 35mm f/1.4 P FE
Samyang’s new Prima Series begins with the AF 35mm f/1.4 P FE lens, emphasizing “portability, practicality, and convenience.” North America will see it marketed under the Rokinon brand.
Weighing just 470g (16.6oz), it stands out as the lightest autofocus 35mm prime lens designed for Sony E-mount full-frame cameras. This makes it ideal for portable setups like the Sony A7C II or Sony a6700. Additionally, weather sealing protects the lens during outdoor use.

With an f/1.4 aperture, the lens excels in low light, creating stunning background blur. It also offers a close focus distance of 0.3m (0.98ft). Built with both photographers and videographers in mind, it minimizes focus breathing. Upgrades are straightforward via a USB-C port on the lens, eliminating the need for extra accessories.
Kriss Hampton-Joyce, Head of Technology at Holdan, states that the Prima Series combines exceptional optical performance with practicality, catering to creators of all skill levels at an accessible price point. Pre-orders for the AF 35mm f/1.4 P FE are now open, with shipping expected in January 2025.
Samyang’s First Wide-Angle Lens for APS-C Mirrorless Cameras
Samyang’s entry into the APS-C mirrorless lens market is marked by the release of the AF 12mm f/2. Designed for compact cameras, it holds the title of the widest-angle autofocus lens in Samyang’s lineup. Its target users include landscape, architecture, astrophotography, and travel photographers.
The f/2 aperture enhances low-light performance, a crucial feature for astrophotography. The lens also incorporates seven aperture blades for a starburst bokeh effect. Its optical design includes three extra-low dispersion (ED) elements and two aspherical lenses, ensuring sharp, distortion-free images with minimal chromatic aberration.
With a compact form—213g (7.51oz) and 57.2mm (2.25in)—and full weather sealing, this lens is highly portable and durable. Its quiet STM autofocus motor efficiently tracks fast-moving subjects, while a focus distance of 0.2m (7.87in) makes it versatile for close-ups.
Hampton-Joyce praises the lens as a significant advancement in providing creators with powerful tools to realize their artistic goals. Pre-orders for the AF 12mm f/2 are open now, with deliveries also set for January 2025.
