The SONY BURANO 8K (MPC-2610) just got a major performance boost with the release of Firmware Version 2.01. This update enhances control, expands shooting options, and delivers professional-level features that elevate its position as a top-tier cinema camera.

New Recording Formats for Cinematic Freedom
The update adds three versatile recording formats designed for different creative goals:
• FFcrop 3.8K 16:9 at 120fps – Ideal for smooth slow-motion without using the full sensor.
• S35 4.3K 4:3 at 60fps – Perfect for anamorphic shooting with a classic cinematic aesthetic.
• S35 1.9K 16:9 at 240fps – Delivers ultra-smooth motion for high-action scenes, though it disables SDI and HDMI output during use.
To enhance anamorphic workflows, a new 1.8x desqueeze mode now improves real-time monitoring.
Improved Monitoring and Metadata Features
SONY BURANO 8K users can now benefit from VF Gamma Display Assist when shooting in S-Log3, providing more accurate on-screen previews. A new “Monitor FHD” SDI output option lets users view a cleaner layout by moving overlays outside the frame.
Additionally, the firmware embeds metadata like Time Code, Clip Name, image stabilization, and focus breathing compensation directly into X-OCN files—ideal for post-production and VFX integration.
Expanded Frame Rates for More Control
New frame rate choices, including 66, 72, 75, 88, 90, 96, and 110fps, now give filmmakers granular control over the motion style in their scenes. These extra options enhance flexibility, especially in stylized or commercial productions.
White Balance and Autofocus Enhancements
White balance settings now include eight memory slots—up from three—enabling faster adjustments on fast-paced shoots. For those using custom 3D LUTs, image quality has also seen improvements.
Autofocus performance now runs more reliably at popular frame rates like 24P, 25P, and 29.97P, offering smoother results in narrative work.
Remote Operations and System Upgrades
Remote operators can now adjust focus and zoom using the camera, Sony’s M&C app, or third-party devices. Although iris control is limited to remote panels, variable ND filters and tally settings are now adjustable remotely too.
Production teams will also appreciate subtle additions like camera ID, Reel #, and media formatting tools on the status screen. These streamline workflow on professional sets.
BURANO Goes Fully Pro
Firmware 2.01 transforms the SONY BURANO 8K into an even more capable cinema tool. These are not minor updates—they’re practical upgrades for serious productions. The 240fps 1.9K mode is a highlight for music videos, documentaries, and action-packed shoots.
Sony clearly listens to filmmakers and continues to evolve its gear to meet real-world demands.
