Video recording options are extensive. The GFX ETERNA 55 records up to DCI 8K at 30fps or 4K open gate 4:3 at 48fps. Supported sensor formats include GF 4:3 Open Gate, GF DCI, Premista, 35mm DCI, 8K DCI dot-by-dot, and Super 35 DCI. Internal codecs include:

  • Apple ProRes 422 HQ with Linear PCM stereo 24-bit / 48kHz audio
  • Apple ProRes 422 with Linear PCM stereo audio

  • Apple ProRes 422 LT with Linear PCM stereo audio

  • HEVC/H.265 4:2:2 10-bit with Linear PCM stereo audio

  • Apple ProRes Proxy

  • H.264 Proxy

External HDMI video output supports either 12-bit raw or 4:2:2 10-bit uncompressed signals.

The GFX ETERNA 55 includes a built-in electronic variable ND filter with density ranging from ND0.6 to ND2.1 in fine 0.015 stop increments. Autofocus is powered by an intelligent hybrid AF system that combines TTL contrast detection with TTL phase detection. Subject recognition covers faces, animals, birds, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, airplanes, and trains when using GF lenses.

Displays, Film Simulations, Connectivity, and Network Features

The GFX ETERNA 55 includes two displays: a side-mounted 3” onboard menu screen with 700-nit brightness, 3:2 aspect ratio, and 1.04M dots, and a detachable 5” touchscreen LCD monitor on a flexible mount. The monitor provides 2,000 nits brightness with 6.22M dots at 1920 × 1080 resolution.

Framing tools allow up to three simultaneous guides, with support for aspect ratios such as 2.39:1, 17:9, 16:9, 5:4, 4:3, 3:2, 1:1, or custom formats. Scaling, color, and line width of these guides are adjustable.

Film simulations are a core FUJIFILM feature, and the GFX ETERNA 55 supports 20 options, including: ETERNA, ETERNA Bleach Bypass, PROVIA/Standard, Velvia/Vivid, ASTIA/Soft, REALA ACE, Classic Chrome, Classic Neg, and ACROS. FUJIFILM will also release new downloadable 3D LUTs for select simulations optimized for F-Log2 workflows, including ITU-R BT.709. The camera supports importing and storing up to sixteen 3D LUTs.

Power, Media, Build, and Price of GFX ETERNA 55

The GFX ETERNA 55 consumes 21W nominally, with a maximum power draw of 49W. It can be powered via DC input (12–16V), V-Mount input (11–16.8V), or an internal NP-W235 battery. The internal battery enables hot swapping with external sources, reducing the risk of data loss during power changes. The NP-W235 also charges automatically when connected to an external source. Accessory power is supported via 2-pin Lemo 12V at 3A and 12-pin Hirose lens connector 14V at 0.5A.

For recording media, the camera supports both CFexpress Type B and SD cards. The form factor is new for FUJIFILM, designed for both solo operators and production crews. Dimensions are approximately 110.8 × 138.2 × 176.8 mm (4.36 × 5.44 × 6.96 in), and weight is about 2.0 kg (4.41 lbs), excluding battery and media. Operating conditions include temperatures from 14 to 104°F and humidity between 10% and 80% without condensation.

The GFX ETERNA 55 will begin shipping in October 2025 with a US retail price of $16,499.95. The package includes the camera body along with essential accessories: Li-ion NP-W235 battery, AC power adapter AC-15VS, AC cable, body cap, handle, LCD monitor, LCD monitor hood, LCD mounting bracket, and a PL-mount adapter.

FUJIFILM has also released a GF 32-90mm T3.5 lens designed to complement the GFX ETERNA 55, which is covered in a separate announcement.
