ARRI has officially launched the ARRI Camera Companion App, a robust remote control tool developed for ARRI’s professional camera systems. First previewed during its beta phase in 2022 alongside the ALEXA 35, the app now steps out of beta with expanded features, subscription flexibility, and compatibility with five ARRI camera models. These updates reflect feedback gathered from thousands of industry users over the past few years.
ARRI has also released an official walkthrough video, offering a deeper look into the app’s capabilities.
Three Tiers of the ARRI Camera Companion App
The ARRI Camera Companion App comes in three tiers:
Demo Version (Free): Ideal for newcomers, this version includes basic single-camera control, menu access, and a virtual camera mode to test user interfaces without connecting physical gear.
Standard Version: Designed for small-scale productions, this tier allows full control of up to two cameras and includes customizable layouts using a simple drag-and-drop interface. It’s priced at $4.99/month or $49.00/year.
Premium Version: Built for professionals, this tier supports unlimited cameras, multi-tab layouts, MIDI controller integration, CDL-based live grading, and remote lens control through ARRI’s cforce motors. Subscriptions cost $39.00/month or $399.00/year.
Though some may hesitate at the subscription model, ARRI aims this tool squarely at working professionals, not casual users. Both paid tiers are available for a free trial, and the Demo tier offers enough functionality to explore the app without financial commitment.
Compatible ARRI Camera Models
Upon release, the app supports the following ARRI models:
ALEXA 35
ALEXA Mini LF
ALEXA Mini
AMIRA
ALEXA 265
Users can manage various functions remotely, such as recording, frame rate, ND filters, shutter angle, exposure index, white balance, playback, timecode, and more. Advanced features like CDL grading are available only for select models like the ALEXA Mini and AMIRA.
Modular Layouts and Workflow Enhancements
A standout feature of the ARRI Camera Companion App is its fully modular interface. Users can create personalized layouts using drag-and-drop tiles for ISO, FPS, white balance, and playback. Each layout can be saved per project and tailored to individual users or shooting conditions.
Premium users benefit from multi-tab configurations, allowing quick access to separate views for different cameras, lens control, or monitoring setups. Grouped tiles can manage MVF and SDI settings, while unlimited user buttons offer fast toggles for essential controls.
Each project remembers its layout and camera links, streamlining transitions between scenes or clients. The built-in simulator enables layout building during prep or training—no physical camera required.
With multiple devices able to connect to the same camera, team members can perform tasks independently. For instance, a DIT can fine-tune color settings while a focus puller adjusts lens parameters simultaneously.

Frame Grab and Sharing Features
One handy addition is the frame grab tool. Users can capture frames, view them within the app’s gallery, and share them via iOS or export them through the Files app. It’s a valuable option for real-time feedback or quick visual references.
MIDI and Lens Control Integration
The Premium version unlocks MIDI support, letting users assign camera controls to any MIDI-enabled device, from faders to foot pedals. This feature proves useful for studio builds or live broadcast environments where tactile control is preferred.
Integration with ARRI’s cforce motors allows remote focus, iris, and zoom control. Operators can calibrate and adjust motors on drones, gimbals, or remote rigs without physical access to the camera.

Connectivity and Multi-Camera Management
Whether working solo or as part of a crew, the ARRI Camera Companion App provides flexible connectivity. Users can connect directly to a camera using WiFi host mode or link multiple cameras to a shared network through a router.
The app’s iOS camera switcher tile simplifies switching between units on the fly, ensuring efficient control even on complex multi-camera shoots.

Final Thoughts: A Professional-Grade Remote System
More than just a remote menu, the ARRI Camera Companion App is a comprehensive tool tailored for professional production environments. It empowers teams with customizable layouts, real-time collaboration, and full camera control—all from their iPhone, iPad, or Apple Silicon Mac.
