Upcoming Canon firmware update for its Cinema EOS line and professional camcorders brings a range of valuable improvements, aiming to provide users with a more connected and efficient on-set experience. These updates focus on streamlining workflows and simplifying tasks such as exposure settings and file management, ultimately enhancing both shooting and post-production processes.
Streamlined Post-Production with Frame.io Integration
A key feature in the update is the new ability for cameras like the EOS C70 and EOS R5 C to connect directly to Frame.io, a cloud-based collaboration platform. Users can now upload, review, and edit footage remotely by sending proxy files over Wi-Fi or Ethernet directly from the camera. This feature reduces the need for physical file transfers and accelerates post-production workflows, particularly for professionals in fast-paced fields like news, sports, or event videography.

Anamorphic Lens Support and EOS C400 Enhancements
Canon has also tailored specific updates to meet the needs of the EOS C400. One such improvement is the addition of an anamorphic de-squeeze display assist option. This feature adjusts the on-screen preview to match the lens’s squeeze effect, giving filmmakers an accurate view of their footage without requiring additional equipment. For filmmakers working with wide aspect ratios, this feature proves invaluable, enabling precise previews before editing. Additionally, Canon has upgraded the EOS C400’s MON OUT and HDMI output to support 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, improving the viewing experience on external monitors.
Lens Communication Updates and Autofocus Improvements
The firmware update also enhances lens communication, especially for cameras like the EOS C70 and EOS R5 C. The new update improves compatibility with Canon’s RF 70-200mm f/2.8 and RF 24mm f/1.4 lenses, as well as the RF 17-120 Cine-Servo lens, ensuring a smoother connection with the latest RF optics. Another valuable addition is the new mirroring option for models such as the EOS C300 Mark III and EOS C70. This option allows the external monitor to mirror the camera’s LCD output, providing alignment for framing, focus, and exposure adjustments. This feature proves useful for both on-set shooting and post-production adjustments.

The EOS R5 C update improves autofocus control and usability. Users can now move the autofocus frame by sliding or dragging it across the screen, offering more flexibility when focusing on different areas of the frame. Canon also introduced a subject tracking trigger, making it easier to lock focus on moving subjects with high precision. These improvements are particularly beneficial for filming fast-moving subjects, such as in wildlife, sports, or documentary settings, where accurate focus is essential.
Lastly, the XF605 model also benefits from several usability updates. The firmware update enhances headphone volume controls and lens focus ring responsiveness, providing more control for videographers working in real-time. These subtle yet important updates support professionals who rely on precise sound monitoring and manual focus in documentary or interview settings.
Canon will made these firmware updates available for download on its website, ensuring that users can easily access and take full advantage of these improvements.
