A Fresh Perspective on Large Format

At its core, the Fujifilm GFX100RF houses a 102MP GFX CMOS II HS sensor, which is 1.7 times larger than a full-frame sensor. This sensor sits within a durable aluminum body, milled from a 500g single block for enhanced rigidity. The fixed 35mm f/4 FUJINON lens (equivalent to 28mm in full-frame) is designed for sharpness and versatility, incorporating 10 elements in 8 groups, including two aspherical and a Nano GI-coated element. A 9-blade aperture diaphragm ensures beautifully smooth bokeh, with an f/4 to f/22 range.

To expand creative control, an in-camera digital teleconverter enables cropping to 45mm, 63mm, and 80mm equivalent focal lengths in photo mode. A leaf shutter mechanism allows silent shooting and unrestricted flash syncspeeds, making it an ideal choice for documentary, travel, and street photography.

Refined Design and Features

Despite its compact size, the GFX100RF is packed with professional-level tools. A dedicated Aspect Ratio Dial allows quick switching between eight aspect ratios, including 4:3, 65:24, and 1:1. Fujifilm drew inspiration from its legacy of large-format photography, providing photographers with more creative framing options.

A built-in 4-stop ND filter aids in exposure control, enabling wider apertures or longer shutter speeds in bright conditions. Additionally, five-axis digital image stabilization enhances handheld shooting, ensuring sharper images and smoother video capture.

Autofocus, Film Simulations, and ISO Range

Fujifilm has significantly refined the AI-driven autofocus system, which now detects faces, eyes, animals, birds, vehicles, and airplanes. This enhancement boosts accuracy and speed for both stills and video recording.

The camera includes 20 built-in Film Simulations, such as ETERNA, REALA Ace, and other classic analog-inspired profiles, providing an authentic film-like aesthetic straight out of the camera.

The ISO range varies from 80 to 12,800 for stills and 100 to 12,800 for video, ensuring high-quality performance across diverse lighting conditions.

Video Capabilities – ProRes and Cloud Integration

The GFX100RF records 16:9 and DCI 4K video at up to 30p, with a maximum bitrate of 720Mbps. It supports 4:2:2 10-bit internal recording, along with F-Log and F-Log2 for enhanced post-production flexibility.

One of its most compelling features is USB-C 10Gbps ProRes HQ External SSD recording, which allows high-quality, edit-ready footage to be captured directly. Additionally, Frame.io Camera-to-Cloud support enables instant file uploads, streamlining professional workflows.

A Strategic Move in Fujifilm’s Lineup

The launch of the GFX100RF aligns with Fujifilm’s ongoing expansion in large-format photography. While this camera is designed with photographers in mind, the company is also developing the GFX ETERNA, a dedicated cinema camera featuring open-gate recording, dual native ISO, and advanced video tools. This model serves as the true cinematic counterpart in Fujifilm’s GFX lineup.

Why the GFX100RF Stands Out

A 102MP large-format camera in such a lightweight and compact body feels like a futuristic breakthrough. While a fixed-lens design may seem restrictive, the high resolution compensates by allowing significant cropping and reframing in post-production. Even a 1/4 crop still results in a 25MP file, which remains highly usable.

The inclusion of USB-C ProRes recording and Frame.io Camera-to-Cloud support sets this model apart. The ability to capture high-quality footage directly to an external SSD and instantly upload files to the cloud enhances efficiency for professional workflows.

A Hybrid Camera for Creators

With support for F-Log, F-Log2, USB-C ProRes recording, and XLR audio inputs, the GFX100RF isn’t just a stills camera—it’s a hybrid tool catering to photographers, filmmakers, and content creators alike.

Real-world tests will determine the full extent of its image quality, lens sharpness, and low-light performance, but at first glance, Fujifilm has delivered something unique and innovative. This could easily be one of the most exciting large-format cameras to hit the market.

Pricing and Availability

The Fujifilm GFX100RF is scheduled to ship in April 2025 with a retail price of $4,899.95 and €4,519.44. It offers medium format quality in an accessible, fixed-lens package, standing out as a unique entry in the GFX series.
